The Cloud Automation teams sit right in the middle of this offering world class PaaS built on top of Paddy Power Betfair’s award winning IaaS solution. Tasked primarily with proactively facilitating the go live process for delivery teams – the teams also work closely with other technical teams to help relentlessly improve our process, tools and skills.

Role Summary

The Cloud Automation Engineer will work on multiple initiatives with the aim of integrating our automated infrastructure with our PaaS. We’re looking for an engineer to join our team to continuously improve Paddy Power Betfair’s award winning private cloud which is based on the Openstack platform. You will be well versed in continuous delivery and how it is utilized to deliver applications to production. You will be familiar with a variety of Linux distributions and ideally be experienced in Centos. This job will require you to have Linux administration and automation skills. You should also be comfortable with networking and storage principles and best practices. You will have experience running both virtualized and physical servers and will assist delivery teams set up deployment pipelines that will deploy Paddy Power Betfair’s applications through all testing environments and onto production. You will create self-service infrastructure workflows that delivery teams will consume. You will work and coach other automation engineers and become familiar with continuous integration, continuous delivery and deployment processes at Paddy Power Betfair and how to implement them and improve them. We want you to have a “can do” attitude and look at ways of automating manual tasks. You will be a key part of the team that will be bring the next breed of infrastructure to our delivery teams and support their needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day activity improving our infrastructure, tooling and continuous delivery processes; including project work.
  • Research and development of tooling and/or process to enable delivery and infrastructure teams.
  • Utilize Paddy Power Betfair’s configuration management tools such as Ansible, Jenkins and GoCD to create self-service workflows
  • Work closely with delivery teams and product owners as part of an Agile software delivery team to ensure resilience of private cloud at all times
  • Active participation to full integration of automated workflows into a Continuous Delivery framework
  • Resource estimations for projects and software releases
  • Responsibility to contribute to the documentation used by the team


  • Aptitude for evaluating and embracing new technologies and tooling.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Technical knowledge of Linux, Networking, CD/CI tooling
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python)
  • Linux administration experience
  • Knowledge automating manual application deployment using Ansible, and Chef.
  • Experience of Virtualization technologies (Xen, KVM)
  • Experience treating infrastructure as code.
  • Experience using source control management tools such as Git
  • Exposure to OpenStack


  • Experienced with automated building of Red Hat servers.
  • Experienced in creation and roll-out of technical and procedural standards
  • Ability to work and communicate with non-technical business staff
  • Implementation and configuration of monitoring tools
  • Networking experience and knowledge
  • Experience of load balancing products and/or clustering (HA and HPCC)
  • Experience in the administration of RDBMS databases (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server)
