What are we looking for?

A kick-arse Design Manager with a good few years experience. We want experience and confidence but one of our company values is Low-ego, so that’s got to be left at the door. Our company values are really important to us.

They are embedded into how we work and even influence yearly ratings. Our other values are:

Collaboration, which for us means working closely with stakeholders, the Brand team, the Technology team, and of course (and probably most important) the punters themselves!

Agility: We work in an ever-changing digital age and need to stay on top of things. We are always keen to improve processes and engagement models.

Integrity: For us that means championing the customer! And, luckily, we have a few stakeholders who are big fans of this approach!

Relentless Will To Win: That means we need to create the best user experiences and deliver the best Products (websites and Apps) to our customers. That’s where you come in!

What you will do:

Design Managers play a vital role in shaping our Products. They closely manage UX & UI teams, working closely with stakeholders, technology & research teams to create the best Gaming apps & websites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading product design activities, from concepts through to development with the use of wireframes, prototypes and customer journeys.
  • Delivering strategic team initiatives (sounds nice and poncy) such as best practice standards, guidelines and re-usable components.
  • Championing our Design Principles.
  • Develop and mentor junior members of the Product Design team.
  • There’s obviously more but you get the picture… It’s UX, right?

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of industry experience (just so we know you know what you’re talking about)
  • A strong working knowledge of creating user journeys and wire-framing. Basic UX stuff.
  • Passionate about usability & emerging design trends.
  • Experience working in Agile environments. We work in sprints but our designers sit together outside of the scrum teams.

  • Would be nice if you had something like a Bachelors/Masters degree in a Computer Science, Visual Design/Multimedia, HCI or Psychology discipline, and evidence of a career in a relevant field.

Our team:

We’ve got a decent sized team, about 40 in total, divided into UX, UI, Research & Optimisation across four international locations. We have great team spirit and plenty of comms tools/channels that allow us to work really closely. It also means you get to travel a little. We use Axure for UX, the UI team use Sketch, and we user-test upwards of 70% of all our work, as well as doing live A-B testing.

We have several set processes that we follow but we are always looking to improve them. We also try to kick off major pieces of work with a Design Sprint.

A big part of the team looks after our Paddy Power and Betfair Gaming products, and that’s where you’ll fit in. You’ll get to work across a plethora of projects across multiple channels, including web and mobile! And if that whets your appetite, read on!

So what’s it like to work at PaddyPower Betfair?

There are great benefits working at Paddy Power Betfair.

During Cheltenham week and big events like the World Cup there’s a great buzz in the office, free Pizza and TVs everywhere showing the events.

I guess the Beauty of working here is that UX is viewed by the business as an integral part of each project, right from the get-go. Our team has a great team spirit and a bucket load of talent!

Yes, it’s gambling but unlike most of our competitors, at PPB we don’t begrudgingly ask ourselves what do we have to do to be compliant, instead we constantly ask what else could we do for our customers.

We have a great atmosphere in all our offices and you’ll work closely with people who really know what they’re talking about. There are also some pretty juicy benefits (health, etc.) flexible working options that include working from home and flexible hours and a decent bonus scheme!
